Watch out for poisonous bugs

Poisonous bugs and insects can be found anywhere, including your home or backyard. To stay safe from getting a poisonous bite or sting, follow these tips from the North Texas Poison Center at Parkland.

  • Always check shoes and clothes before putting them on, especially when they are kept outside.
  • When camping, shake out the tent and sleeping bags before climbing in.
  • Watch for bugs that may hide in garages or under cars.
  • When getting firewood or rocks, watch where your hands go.
  • Be careful not to bother bees when walking through a field of flowers or working in the backyard.
  • Keep sweet drinks and food covered.
  • Use a bug spray when going to areas that have chiggers, black flies or ticks.

If you have questions about how to treat a bite or sting, call the North Texas Poison Center at Parkland at 1.800.222.1222.
