Burn Aftercare Services

The Parkland Burn Center is committed to helping a burn survivor return to a normal life as much as possible.

SOAR – Survivors Offering Assistance in Recovery – peer support group made up of burn survivors and loved ones who visit patients while they are still in the hospital. This program is offered in partnership with the Phoenix Society. For more information contact ParklandBurnSurvivors@phhs.org.

Support Group – A place to connect a burn survivor and loved ones and sure successes while also learning how to overcome day to day struggles. You can simply listen, join the conversation, or ask questions. More here.

Burn Camp – Parkland Burn Camp allow children who have been hospitalized with a burn injury the chance to share time with other who face similar life altering challenges. Learn more and apply for the next burn camp here.

School Re-Entry Program - The Parkland Burn Center is committed to making the transition from the hospital to school as positive as possible for both the student, fellow classmates, and faculty members.

Members of the burn team may accompany the patient back to school, offering the opportunity for the student to participate in telling the burn story to teachers and to fellow classmate. There may also be an opportunity for the school staff to come together and offer information regarding the need of the student and to ask direct questions regarding the best way to meet the needs. Reentry might also consist of simply providing information to the parents and the school staff regarding student needs and what to expect.

As children experience developmental milestones in their lives and their needs change, the Parkland Burn Team is always here to help. When possible, the team takes advantage of the opportunity to offer burn and fire prevention education in conjunction with reentry

For more information please contact our child life specialist at burnchildlifespecialist@phhs.org or call 469-419-6154.
