Conditions We Treat
Sports medicine is a medical specialty focused on the diagnosis and treatment of injuries related to any physical activity, from daily movement to competitive sports. At Parkland, we treat a variety of conditions, some of the most common are:
- Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear
- Rotator cuff tear
- Labral injury (hip or shoulder)

Director of Sports Medicine
Nathan Boes, MD, is an Assistant Professor in Orthopaedic Surgery at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and Director of Sports Medicine at Parkland Health. Dr. Boes specializes in shoulder, elbow, hip and knee injuries, joint replacement, and cartilage restoration.

Program Manager of Sports Medicine
Ryan Peña, MS, LAT, ATC, is a Sports Medicine Program Manager at Parkland Health, licensed and a certified athletic trainer since 2001. He was primarily in the secondary school setting in the Dallas metroplex. Other previous athletic training experiences include collegiate athletics and outpatient physical therapy.
Athletic Trainer
Korie Young, LAT, ATC, is an Athletic Trainer at Parkland Health’s Sports Medicine. Korie has been a licensed and certified Athletic Trainer in Texas since 2001. She previously worked in the secondary school setting. Her extensive experience as an athletic trainer allowed her to transition as a clinical athletic trainer at Parkland. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her husband and three children.
