Simmons Ambulatory Surgery Center

Before the Simmons Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) opened its doors, the doctors and nurses at Parkland experienced rising numbers of patients in need of both emergency (unplanned) and ambulatory (planned) surgeries at the hospital. Staff first had to take care of the most critical patients – those in need of lifesaving care due to severe trauma injuries, burns or other serious health conditions. That meant patients with less acute care needs often had to wait long periods of time – sometimes months – in order to receive treatment.

That’s why Parkland built the Simmons Ambulatory Surgery Center. Today, the center is Parkland’s main location for outpatient surgical and orthopedic procedures. The services provided are planned or scheduled in advance for patients with care needs that are less severe or not immediately life threatening, often called ambulatory procedures or day surgery.

The surgery center provides the highest quality care in a safe setting that’s focused on your comfort and healing. The center’s design features include large waiting areas for friends and family, covered arrival and discharge areas, an on-site lab, doctors’ offices, six operating suites, 15 recovery beds and more. The ASC is easy to find and visit, located across the street from Parkland Memorial Hospital and with its own parking lot.

Clinics at Simmons Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC)

  • Orthopedic services, including spine, hand, foot, tumor and trauma
  • Chronic pain management services
  • Plastic surgery
  • Pre-operative testing
  • Minimally invasive surgical procedures

Since 2007, the surgery center has allowed Parkland to care for patients with ambulatory (planned) surgeries while also expanding the services we offer. In turn, this allows the main operating rooms in the hospital to focus on the most critical patients – those in need of immediate lifesaving care due to trauma injuries, burns and other emergency health conditions.
