Infectious Diseases (PGY2)

PGY2 residency programs build upon Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and PGY1 pharmacy residency training to develop pharmacist practitioners with knowledge, skills and abilities as defined in the educational competency areas, goals and objectives for advanced practice areas. Residents who successfully complete PGY2 residency programs are prepared for advanced patient care or other specialized positions, and board certification in the advanced practice area, if available.

The PGY2 Infectious Diseases residency program at ParklandHealth is structured to develop the resident's competence in multiple areas of ID in which clinical pharmacy services are being provided across the hospital system, including General ID, HIV and Bone and Joint consult services, ambulatory ID and HIV clinics, antimicrobial stewardship and outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy (OPAT)/transitions of care.

The residency program will provide each resident with specific learning/practice experiences designed to enable the resident to expand the scope of their practice skills. These experiences will be varied in nature, but with an overall emphasis on practice development and the pharmacist's responsibility to patients for the outcomes of drug therapy.

• Outpatient ID/OPAT Clinic (1 month)
• HIV Consult and Outpatient Clinic (2 months)
• Non-Teaching ID Consult (1 month)

Elective Learning Experiences

• Parkland Burn Intensive Care Unit (BICU)

Longitudinal Requirements

• On-call coverage
• Staffing every fourth weekend
• Teaching certificate (as needed based on PGY1 completion)
• Monthly “Learning Tuesday” article presentations
