Epilepsy

Parkland’s Epilepsy Center provides inpatient and outpatient services for epilepsy patients. Our medical experts use the latest technology to analyze your seizures and determine a treatment plan that is right for you.

As a Level 4 epilepsy center accredited by the National Association of Epilepsy Center (NAEC), our patients are cared for by specially trained neurology and epilepsy staff in a safe, comfortable setting. Together with faculty from the UT Southwestern Department of Neurology, our Epilepsy program has the professional expertise and facilities to provide the highest level of medical and surgical evaluation and treatment for patients with complex epilepsy. Your care team also includes specially trained nurses and diagnostic technologists, neurosurgeons, neuroradiologists, neuropsychologists and social workers who specialize in epilepsy care.

We care for patients on both an outpatient and inpatient basis, depending on what type of clinical evaluation is needed. Many patients are seen by one of our physicians for the first time in a clinic setting, while other patients may be referred directly from their own provider to our inpatient unit for monitoring.

Inpatient care

Patients at Parkland Epilepsy Center’s Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) receive top quality inpatient care in our secure, 12-room unit. The unit is staffed and monitored 24 hours a day to ensure safety and quality of care. All rooms are private with comfortable sleeping arrangements, making it easier for a family member or guest to stay with you while you are receiving care. The unit includes the latest in EEG, video and computer technology, all of which help the medical providers determine the best way to meet your personalized care needs. The epilepsy unit is also set up to monitor and record each patient’s seizure activity.
