Free yoga for breast cancer patients, survivors at Parkland
Parkland now offers free yoga classes to Parkland breast cancer patients and survivors. Research shows that yoga helps breast cancer patients and survivors in many ways, including decreased fatigue, lower stress levels, better sleep, improved posture and decreased pain. In addition, patients can form a strong support group for one another in this kind of setting.
Betsy Porter, RN, a nurse practitioner who recently retired from Parkland’s Palliative Care department, leads the yoga classes. A certified yoga instructor, Betsy has been practicing yoga for 20 years. The focus of the class is on breathing, gentle stretching, postural awareness and relaxation.
