Always practice crosswalk safety
With the influx of cars and pedestrians on the main Parkland campus, it is important to keep some basic traffic safety tips in mind:
- Always cross at intersections and LOOK both ways before you step out into a crosswalk
- VEHICLES have the right of way. Pedestrians approaching a crosswalk should remember that vehicles may proceed
- DRIVERS must yield to pedestrians that already occupy the crosswalk but only on the side of the road the vehicle is traveling
- MAKE EYE CONTACT with drivers before crossing the street
- PUT DOWN your cell phone while crossing in a crosswalk. We are all pedestrians or drivers at some point, so be observant of others, anticipate distracted people and practice common sense traffic safety.
