The Parkland name installed

Just two weeks ago, Parkland signage was placed atop the new hospital, marking the building as more than a construction project but as the place of care and healing that it will become.

The installation began with a mock-up letter when a sole letter “a” was placed for testing. In less than a month, the entire Parkland name was fully fabricated and installed. Dozens of workers using a large crane worked to ensure proper placement of the letters.

The sign spans more than 72 feet long and the “P” stands more than 15 feet tall. The size was determined by spacing the letters in a way that would minimize window blockage and increase visibility from I-35. The material chosen for the sign will prevent the possibility of strong winds pulling the hard face on the letters out of their frame.

Several rows of low voltage LED lights will illuminate the letters white at night.

At the original hospital built in 1894, the words “Parkland Hospital” are etched in stone. Today, Parkland illuminates in a purple glow on the side of the existing hospital built in 1954. Although time and technology have changed how we mark our name, that one word “Parkland” remains a beacon of care for those in need.
