Staying healthy this winter

Staying healthy this winter

As the weather gets colder forcing us to stay indoors more often, sometimes it can feel like everyone around us is getting sick. With flu season upon us and several contagious viruses spreading within Dallas County including RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus), it is important to stay healthy to protect those around us.

  • Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables as they are high in nutrients that boost our immune system.
  • Add Vitamin C to your diet. Speak with your doctor before starting any supplements or vitamins.
  • Drink plenty of fluids. Staying hydrated is important in the winter too!
  • Keep your distance from others who are sick, if possible. If someone in your household is sick, disinfect common areas often.
  • Wash your hands often and avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
  • Get plenty of sleep, manage stress and make time for exercise.

Flu seasons have not been too bad the last two years thanks to masks and social distancing. That said, our area is are already seeing a rise in flu cases. Getting a flu shot is more important than ever. Parkland offers flu shots at no cost to you during Walk-In Wednesday and at our community clinics. Learn more at https://www.parklandhealth.org/flu
