Holiday Safety Tips

Parkland Health wishes you and your loved ones a happy and safe holiday season. We hope you keep these safety tips in mind this month.

  • Use caution if you are decorating trees and pay attention to their placement inside the home. They can be fire hazards regardless of if it is real or fake. Do not place a tree near candles, heaters or fireplaces and water it often if needed.
  • Use candles with caution, make sure children are not near open flames and use battery-operated candles if possible.
  • Have a plan in place for weather advisories. Watch for weather alerts and download a weather app on your phone to keep track. Though a white Christmas is rare in Dallas, we’ve learned in years past that freeze warnings can happen. Prepare your home, family and pets in the event of freezing temperatures.
  • Practice kitchen safety. Check the expiration date on smoke alarms and fire extinguishers and make sure everyone in the home knows how to put out a fire either using baking soda or a fire extinguisher.
  • Travel safely. Share your travel plans with family or friends and always have a sober ride.
