Fire prevention tips

Parkland is the regional burn center for North Texas and admits 700 to 800 burn patients per year. The top causes of fire related injuries are from cooking, space heaters, electrical malfunctions, smoking and candles. Please help make the world a safe place by following the top 10 prevention tips below.

• Please use back burners on the stove whenever possible and turn pot handles to the back

• Make a three-foot “no kid zone” around, stoves, ovens, grills and fireplaces

• Set your water heater to 120 degrees F or just below medium setting

• Do not leave children unattended in the bathtub

• Do not place hot liquids on tablecloths where a child can pull on it

• Never hold a child while holding a hot beverage

• Never pour gasoline directly on a fire

• Install smoke alarms and make fire extinguishers easily accessible

• Know your escape plan in case there is ever a fire in your home

• Never leave a room with an unattended candle or live fireplace
