Protect your eyes from cataracts
If you have cataracts, your eyes can get blurry or cloudy, driving becomes harder at night and colors look faded. The best thing you can do is to get your eyes checked once a year.
Cataracts can be a part of getting older but Parkland eye doctors say there are ways to delay or avoid them.
- Wear sunglasses and a hat to keep the sun out of your eyes
- Protect your eyes when working with dangerous machines or chemicals and when you play sports
- Do not smoke
- Eat a healthy diet with a lot of fruits, vegetables and fish
- Let your doctor know of any health problems you have. Some health conditions, such as diabetes and thyroid disease, can increase your chance of getting cataracts
Ask your doctor for a referral to see an eye doctor. Parkland eye doctors see patients at the Ophthalmology Clinic and in many community clinics, including Bluitt-Flowers, Garland, Irving, and Southeast Dallas.
