Diabetes on the rise

Rates of diabetes in the Hispanic population are increasing in Dallas County, even among children and adolescents. Al Día spoke with Luigi Meneghini, MD, Director of the Global Diabetes Program at Parkland, about factors that contribute to type 2 diabetes and ways to prevent and treat the disease.

Older adults need their Zzz's

Older adults don't need to sleep like a baby but too little sleep can lead to fatigue and a weak memory. Raja Paspula, MD, a geriatric specialist at Parkland, explained to KERA-FM reasons why some older adults get less sleep and ways to get more needed rest.

A healing space for sexual assault survivors

Sexual assault affects two in five women and one in five men. Specialized nurses at Parkland and counselors with Parkland's Victim Intervention Program/Rape Crisis Center spoke with KTVT-TV (CBS) and Mundo Hispanico about how they create a safe zone for survivors who come to Parkland to allow them to heal and recover their power.
