Record number of flu patients visit Parkland

The typical flu season is from December to March. However, Parkland has seen double the norm for this time of the year. A record-breaking number of people have visited Parkland’s Emergency Department with flu symptoms. Joseph Chang, MD, gave KTVT-TV (CBS) flu statistics and instructions on what to do if symptoms appear.

Parkland seeks medical interpreters

Parkland cares for a diverse patient population. Talking to patients in their own language is a priority. Parkland offers interpretation services in over 166 languages. Language Services Manager, Johanna Casco-Ordonez explained the need for medical interpreters to KUVN-TV (Univision).

Parkland one of largest users of blood

Blood centers nationwide see a decrease in collections during the winter months. Blood transfusions are responsible for saving many lives on any given day. In fiscal year 2017, Parkland used 27,328 units of transfused blood products. Lab Manager, Terry Thibodeau stressed the importance of blood donations to Irving Weekly.
