Parkland's approach to address health disparities in Dallas County

Parkland has served Dallas County’s most vulnerable population for over 125 years. The Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA), published by Parkland and Dallas County Health and Human Services, highlighted areas of Dallas County where most health disparities exist. In an Op-Ed with the Dallas Morning News, Parkland President and CEO Fred Cerise, MD talked about how Parkland will address the health disparities by adding new clinics, telehealth services, community partnerships and more. Dr. Cerise and Dr. Philip Huang, DCHHS Director, hosted a community conversation on the 2019 Dallas County Community Health Needs Assessment. The conversation was covered by KDFW-TV, KXAS-TV, KTVT-TV, WFAA-TV, Al Dia.

Rachel Trammell, registered dietitian, explained to KERANews.org how intermittent fasting could benefit someone who is having problems with overeating or frequent sugar cravings. According to the Community Health Needs Assessment, Parkland saw more than 40,000 patients with diabetes in fiscal year 2018. Kellie Rodriguez, director of the Global Diabetes Program discussed with KRLD-AM how the program addresses this chronic illness through diabetes consultations, education services and more.
