CareerSTAT award highlights career development, advancement
Parkland Health & Hospital System has been recognized as a 2016 Emerging Frontline Healthcare Worker Champion for its commitment to frontline worker development and career advancement. The honor was presented by the National Fund for Workforce Solutions and CareerSTAT.
CareerSTAT is a national initiative spearheading efforts to increase investment in frontline workers. Parkland joins 24 healthcare organizations across the country designated as Frontline Healthcare Worker Champions or Emerging Champions.
“At Parkland we are committed to providing an engaging employee experience in order to best meet the needs of our patient, their families, our providers and the community,” said Jim Dunn, PhD, DHA, DAST, Executive Vice President and Chief Talent Officer at Parkland. “By offering programs that equip workers with the training and education needed to pursue career advancement, we’re helping to create the next generation of health providers to care for Dallas County’s most vulnerable population.”
Through its Parkland Academy, the health system provides skill development and career advancement opportunities through a variety of programs for employees including Rise to Success, Education at Work, Patient Care Assistant/Technician Training, GED program and Tuition Reimbursement. The current GED program has 24 participants.
In 2015, Parkland invested more than $335,000 in the education of 304 employees in its tuition reimbursement program. Since 2009, Parkland has provided $3.7 million in tuition assistance to 3,200 employees.
“This recognition by CareerSTAT and the National Fund for Workforce Solutions truly is a tremendous honor for Parkland, and we are very excited to be part of this group of great organizations working to make a difference in the community,” said Gerard Camacho, Director of Career Development at Parkland. “We are very proud of the work we have done and continue to do in providing skill development and career advancement for our frontline employees.”
