Keep your kids’ ears, nose and throat healthy
Ear, nose and throat (ENT) problems are the main reason many parents take their children to the doctor. This can include sinus and ear infections, stuffy nose, snoring, and sore throat. Parkland ENT doctors have some tips for how to deal with these health problems at any time of year.
- Don’t smoke or let others smoke around your children.
- Make sure everyone in your home washes their hands often.
- Don’t put cotton swabs in your child’s ears. Using them can sometimes push the wax into the ear and can hurt the eardrum.
- Watch your child for snoring. If your child snores every night or pauses when breathing, this can cause headaches and other serious health problems.
- Make sure your child’s vaccinations (shots) are up-to-date.
Ear infections can cause problems with speaking and hearing. Parkland doctors say to take your child to see a doctor if there is blood or pus coming from the ear, if an ear infection doesn’t get better or if a baby under three months has a fever.
