Parkland Health will host its third annual Burn Symposium on March 27, bringing together physicians, nurses, therapists, paramedics and other healthcare professionals to advance education and collaboration in burn care.
The symposium will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Moody Outpatient Center’s MacGregor W. Day Auditorium, 5151 Maple Ave., Dallas.
The one-day educational event is designed to equip healthcare providers with the skills and knowledge needed to care for patients with severe burns, from initial injury and emergency treatment to rehabilitation and recovery.
“Burn care requires a coordinated, multidisciplinary approach,” said Samuel P. Mandell, MD, MPH, FACS, FABA, Burn Section Chief and Director of the Parkland Burn Center. “This symposium provides an opportunity for healthcare professionals to share expertise, discuss emerging practices and strengthen collaboration across the care continuum.”
The keynote speaker is Jeffrey E. Carter, MD, President of the American Burn Association and Medical Director of the Burn Center at University Medical Center New Orleans. Carter will discuss how burn programs balance high-acuity patient care with operational and regulatory demands.
Additional sessions will cover topics including burn resuscitation, disaster preparedness, non-accidental trauma, pain management and survivorship. A multidisciplinary rehabilitation session will highlight the role of physical, occupational and speech therapy in supporting recovery after burn injury.
One session will also explore how healthcare systems prepare for potential mass-casualty events and surges in patient volume as North Texas prepares to host matches during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Continuing education credits are available for nursing and EMS professionals.
Parkland’s Burn Center is one of the largest burn programs in the nation and the only burn center in North Texas verified by the American Burn Association and the American College of Surgeons for both adult and pediatric care. The center treats thousands of patients each year and serves as a regional referral center for complex burn injuries.
