Parkland Ranked Among Nation’s Best for Kidney Transplants

Only center in Texas and one of three nationwide to receive top marks in all key measures

Parkland Health has been named one of the top-performing kidney transplant centers in the nation, according to new data from the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients (SRTR). The report places Parkland number one in Texas and one of only three programs nationwide to earn the highest possible rating in key quality measures.

The SRTR is a federal resource patients use to compare transplant centers across the U.S. based on survival rates and other outcomes. Parkland’s kidney transplant program achieved a rare “five-bar” rating in three critical areas—making it one of the most desirable options for patients in need of a life-saving kidney transplant.

“This accomplishment is a reflection of the culture of quality at Parkland and the Transplant Team’s dedication to patient service,” said Joe Lockridge, MD, Medical Director of Parkland Health’s Transplant Services. “We’re proving that world-class transplant care can be delivered at a public hospital serving one of the most diverse and vulnerable populations in the country.”

Today, Parkland’s transplant program stands not only at the top in Texas but as one of the best in a 750-mile radius—including cities like Denver, St. Louis, Atlanta and Kansas City, and is now tied with NYU Langone Health in New York and Intermountain Health in Utah for national performance—two large, nationally recognized transplant programs with longstanding reputations for excellence.

“This success is the result of a full-team effort—from referrals and waitlist support, to surgery and post-transplant care,” said Joseph Chang, MD, Chief Medical Officer at Parkland Health. “It’s about more than metrics. It’s about giving patients with end-stage kidney disease a second chance at life.”

The SRTR’s ratings reflect the latest data on transplant survival rates, waitlist outcomes, and how quickly patients receive organs. Parkland’s results demonstrate that high-quality transplant outcomes are achievable in a public health setting—even when serving patients with complex social and medical needs.
