Two healthcare heroes, Megan Bennett, RN and Otto Madrigal, RN, registered nurses in Parkland’s intensive care unit, shared with The Dallas Morning News what it’s like to care for COVID-19 positive patients on the frontlines of the fight.

Parkland shares COVID-19 planning, preparations

Dr. Fred Cerise, CEO of Parkland, shared important information to prevent the spread of COVID-19, such as staying at home, with a variety of local media outlets, including KRLD-AM and Dallas Weekly. The Dallas Morning News, Al Día and KRLD-AM reported about hospital preparations for COVID-19 positive patients. KERA-FM reported about work to identify geographic distribution of the virus in Dallas County. COVID-19 testing information was shared by Elcomunicadordallas.com. Herron Mitchell, Director in Population Health, spoke with KRNB 105.7 about the importance of staying home to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Parkland welcomes PPE donations

KXAS-TV (NBC), KTVT-TV (CBS) and D CEO Healthcare shared the details about how to donate PPE to Parkland as the hospital prepares for COVID-19 positive patients. New and unopened items accepted include gloves, masks, hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes. More information is available at www.parklandhospital.com/PPE.

Eating healthy while sheltering in place

Grocery store runs are not too frequent these days and some product choices are limited, such as meat and dairy. Parkland’s Rachel Trammell, Registered Dietician, shared some tips with KERA-FM that will help you keep eating healthy despite limited options. She recommends foods such as canned vegetables and sources of protein that go beyond meat, like eggs and nuts.
