Parkland Board Chairwoman honored by DFW Hospital Council
Paula Dobbs-Wiggins, MD, has been named one of the recipients of the Kerney Laday, Sr., Trustees of the Year by the Dallas-Fort Worth Hospital Council. The award was presented during a virtual event honoring recipients on Oct. 20.
The Trustee of the Year honor was named in memory of Kerney Laday, Sr., who served on the Texas Health Resources Board for a decade. The award was created in 2013 to honor trustees who have displayed excellence throughout their careers. Other recipients of this year’s award are Ross McKnight of Baylor Scott & White Health and James Young Wynne from Texas Health Resources.
“With these awards, we are proud to acknowledge the extraordinary community leadership of Dr. Paula Dobbs-Wiggins, Ross McKnight and James Young Wynne who have dedicated their careers to our community health and well-being,” said Stephen Love, president/CEO of DFWHC. “We are grateful to recognize their contributions.”
Dr. Dobbs-Wiggins was appointed to the Parkland Board of Managers in 2013 as an at-large appointee by the Dallas County Commissioners Court. She has served on various Board committees and was elected by her fellow Board members to the offices of secretary in 2016 and vice chair in 2018. She was unanimously chosen by her peers to serve as chairwoman in 2019.
Dr. Dobbs-Wiggins is a board-certified psychiatrist and Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and is in private practice in Dallas specializing in the treatment of adult affective disorders. She is also an ordained minister and a retired Professor of the Practice of Pastoral Care at Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University.
“Her unique educational journey and professional experiences reflect her passion for the well-being of others – body, mind and spirit,” said Fred Cerise, MD, president and CEO of Parkland Health & Hospital System. “She has dedicated herself to compassionate service in her professional, personal and volunteer endeavors. The entire Parkland community offers our congratulations and thanks to Dr. Dobbs-Wiggins.”
