extending Maternal Care After Pregnancy (eMCAP)
Parkland’s eMCAP program helps you and your baby receive the healthcare you need. After delivery, most women delay their care that is crucial up to a year postpartum. The program also connects you with resources in your community to meet your social and financial needs.
Overview
Receiving the proper healthcare during the first year after your baby is born can prevent complications and save your life. Taking the best care of your newborn starts with taking care of yourself. The eMCAP program’s care team provides relief for new moms by:
- Monitoring their health and their baby’s.
- Offering financial assistance for future healthcare services.
- Helping you sign up for Women, Infant and Children Health Services (WIC).
- Arranging transportation to medical appointments.
Next Steps?
You can enroll in the eMCAP program at Parkland Memorial Hospital after delivery. Once you arrive home, a Nurse Home Visitor will call you to schedule your first appointment. eMCAP is at no cost to eligible families.
If you did not have the opportunity to enroll at the hospital or would like to learn more, either:
Continued Care
Nurse practitioners will provide follow-up care after delivery if you have any chronic conditions, such as:
- High blood pressure
- Diabetes
- Anxiety
- Depression
Women who live in Dallas County who qualify will have access to mobile clinic visits to treat these conditions. Any advanced care will be on an as-needed basis.
At-Home Visits
Nurse home visitors are registered nurses who will schedule your in-home visits to do a physical exam on you and your baby. During these home visits, the nurses will check your blood pressure, teach you about breast care and self-care and provide information about birth control, sexually transmitted infections and nutrition.
Nurse home visitors can also help you schedule your next appointments with your providers.
Managing Medicine
Clinical pharmacists work with you to make sure your medicines are safe, effective, and easy to take. They can answer your questions and help you understand how to use your medications correctly.
