Psychiatry Consult Liaison/Addictions Services

Description: If you or your loved one is admitted to Parkland Memorial Hospital for medical needs but also have a mental health or substance use treatment need, the Psych Consult Liaison Service or Addictions Services may be consulted by your primary medical team to assist with your or your loved one’s care. These teams provide psychiatric assessment, treatment, and connection to appropriate levels of care upon resolve of medical conditions. Some levels of care include outpatient therapy, outpatient medication management, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient programming or inpatient psychiatric hospitalization.

Treatment Team: The Psychiatry Consult Liaison Team is a multi-disciplinary team of psychiatrists or advanced practice providers, psychologists, social workers, and a psychiatric nurse. The Addictions Services team is comprised of a psychiatrist who specializes in addictions, an advanced practice provider, social workers, and a peer recovery navigator.

Services: The Psychiatry Consult Liaison Team talks with patients for psychiatric assessment, recommends a treatment plan, and assists with connecting patients to outpatient mental health providers and other appropriate resources. Sometimes patients are prescribed psychiatric medications or are referred to licensed clinical social workers or psychologists for brief therapy during hospitalization. The Addiction Psychiatry Team assists patients on the inpatient medical units who have substance use disorders. For patients with active detox and withdrawal, medication-assisted treatment may be offered, and patients are connected to additional substance use treatment programs and resources once the patient is ready for discharge. This team also operates an outpatient clinic one day per week.
