Although our primary duty is to ensure the safety and security of patients, visitors and staff at Parkland Memorial Hospital and its network of Community Oriented Primary Care health centers, the DCHD Police Department also provides a number of services for those who visit any of our locations throughout Dallas County. As the critical link to our officers in the field, the Police Communications Dispatch Center is hub of activity where dispatchers facilitate emergency and non-emergency calls for service. Providing law enforcement support are members of the Administrative Services Division who routinely patrol parking garages and surface lots, and staff members in our Lost and Found department work to reunite owners with their missing property. The DCHD Police Department Honor Guard represents the department at funerals of fallen officers, memorial activities and other special law enforcement honor ceremonies approved by the Chief of Police.
In collaboration with Parkland’s Pastoral Care department and Veteran’s Employee Resource Group (ERG) and with permission from the family, the Dallas County Hospital District (DCHD) Police Department is notified when a known veteran passes away and ensures they receive their final honors at the hospital. A flag-draped gurney with the flag of the military branch of the veteran centered below is used to transport the deceased to the lobby. There, DCHD police officers present the name, rank and military branch of the veteran who has passed away. In honor of his/her service to our country, the officer asks for a moment of silence and begins a flag folding ceremony.
Police Communications operates 24 hours a day, 365 days per year.
Emergency: 911
Non-Emergency: (469) 419-7777; internally 7-7777
The Police Communications Dispatch Center is the lifeline and nerve center of the DCHD Police Department. Each police communications operator plays a vital role in the overall mission of the department by facilitating emergency and non-emergency calls for service. Police dispatchers monitor the more than 2800 cameras located throughout the Parkland system, which are used to serve as a supplement to DCHD Police and Public Service officers who patrol on foot and by vehicle.
Police Communications operates 24 hours a day and acts as the primary point of contact or referral resource for:
- Calls for police assistance
- Overhead paging
- Fire alarm activations
- Panic and door alarms
The Police Communications Dispatch Center is staffed by full-time telecommunicators licensed through the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE).
For emergencies from an on-campus Parkland landline, call 911 to reach the DCHD Police Department.
If you are calling from a cell phone on the main campus or at any of Parkland’s off-site locations, all 911 calls will be routed through the Dallas Police Department and, if appropriate, transferred to the DCHD Police Department Communications Dispatch Center for response.
The DCHD Police Department maintains a network of approximately 97 “blue pole” emergency phones in parking garages and surface lots on the main hospital campus. These emergency call boxes have a blue light on top. Pushing the call button activates a direct connection with the DCHD Police Department’s Communications Dispatch Center and automatically pinpoints the caller’s location.
Pushing a call button when there is NO EMERGENCY is the same as making a false report to law enforcement.
