Making progress on the inside

With the hospital now fully enclosed, most of the daily progress is being made inside the walls of the new Parkland hospital. Several patient floors are almost complete and painted, only lacking hospital equipment. On the fifth floor of the acute care tower, wood flooring is already installed along with wood paneling where the headboard of the patients’ beds will be located.

Every patient room in the new hospital will be identical. This significant design feature helps to prevent errors due to layout variations and gives doctors and nurses the best opportunity to care for patients. The rooms also are designed so nurses can work from a station just outside of the rooms and view two patients at the same time from two vertical, rectangular windows.

The new Parkland hospital is scheduled to be completed next summer and will be open for patients in 2015. For regular updates visit www.parklandhospital.com/newparkland.
