Car seats and booster seats save lives, which is why it is so important to choose and use them correctly every time your child is in the car. Here are some facts about car seat safety to keep your family safe.
• Find the right seat: Texas law requires that children younger than 8 years old ride in a car seat or booster every time they are in a car unless than are 4 feet, 9 inches tall. Choose the right seat for your child depending on their size, weight and
height.
• Installation: Before you install the seat, make sure you are familiar with the parts and with the car you are installing it in. Read all instructions and make sure you are securely locking the seat.
• Inspection: Getting your car seat inspected is important to make sure it is installed correctly, fits your child properly and passes all safety requirements. Many local police and fire departments conduct free inspections.
• Registration: Registration cards are included in all federally compliant car seats. Registering it with the manufacturer will notify you of recalls and safety notices. This also ensures that you are not using a counterfeit car seat, an increasingly common problem. Counterfeit seats are not crash-tested, and do not meet federal safety standards.
